News: Week of 3/3 – 3/7

Howdy, folks. Hope everyone’s handling midterm season well. If my count is correct — and it usually is — after this week, we’re almost halfway through the semester! For some of you, that must bring you great joy; for others (like the seniors), it may bring dread, gloom, and yet another sense of “What is life?” And that’s ok, because we have Course 101 that deals directly with that question!

In a not-so-smooth-transition, here’s what’s going on this week:

FRIDAY 3/5

Special Talk: Are Science and Faith Compatible?
7pm @ 112 Wurster

Oftentimes, it seems like there’s a Grand Canyon between science and faith. Our very own John Lee will bridge the two together through this insightful talk. Invite your friends to this event — dinner will be provided at 7!

Afterwards, we’ll do something fun. What can it be? Stay tuned!

SUNDAY 3/7

Baptism Service / Mark Inductive Training
10:00AM @ Willard

Jordan Tsai, Grace Lam, and Ryan Theimer will be getting baptized this Sunday! Baptism starts at 11:30, so please come and show them your support!

We’ll also be continuing with the Mark Inductive training at 10am.

DT GROUPS

If you’d like to join a DT Group, it’s not too late! Just go ahead and put your name in the desired spot.

SATURDAY

THANKSGIVING RETREAT
Chabot Performing Arts Center in Hayward
10am – 7pm
Cost: $20

As one of our biggest retreats of the year, Thanksgiving Retreat gives us the time to share and hear testimonies of how God has been working in individual brothers and sisters’ lives as well as how God has been working in our church as a whole. We really want to encourage all of you to sign up, ESPECIALLY if you have never been to one. :) Hurry! Signups will be closing soon!

The plan right now is to head to the beach, play some sports, eat some good food and go biking around some gorgeous scenery!

Here’s a sneak peek from former trips:

Look at that amazing view! The waters so blue!

A: Going down a 3 story high slide stone slide in the dark!

We’re going to take a drive up to North Berkeley’s Rose Garden and have some fun on the stone slide and the nearby playground. Who say’s you can play in a playground after you go to college? :)

For those of you attending the Tay-Phung wedding, we’re going to have to pass up on this opportunity in order to prepare something for the reception. We’ll start practice after bible study.

News: Week of 10/13-10/18

It looks like a rainy week this week, folks… up until Thursday, anyways. Hope everyone stays dry and healthy! Word on the streets is that most people are now done with their first wave of midterms… that is, unless you’re in the college of chemistry where you just constantly get pummeled by midterms.

Here are the plans this week:

WED: HOTSPOT

Hot Spot is still on this week, but will be meeting by different groups. Please contact your staff for more info.

FRIDAY

FROSH LIFE GROUP + DINNER
6:30pm @ YWCA

Freshmen Life Group and dinner is back at the Y this week.

JRS+SRS SETUP

RSF NIGHT
9:30pm

a2f and Kairos will be combining to have our first RSF Night of the year! If I recall correctly, the juniors won the Kairos Kleeberger Field night a few months back (though, I thought they only won it because of their sick intro; I tried to suppress it from my memory). Who will win this week? Can the freshmen take it all for the first time ever (this semester)? Can the sophomores? Oh, the suspense! Oh, the drama! Be there and be a part of it!

Group Devotion Time

DT by groups begins this week. Those of you who signed up should’ve gotten an email from Eunice. If you would still like to join, it’s not too late to sign up!

SWS Setup Team and Elderly Care Ministry

Two things here: First, we are looking for a few good men and women who will rise to the occasion of learning — and doing — the Sunday setup each week. We have an unofficial eighth core value in our church, and that is SIU — setting it up! Be a part of the team that goes every Sunday to Willard at the crack of dawn (ie, 8am) to help SIU the sound, stage, and lights. Sign up to serve in this way!

Second, we’ll need another group of people to help out with the Elderly Care Ministry, led by our Praxis people. This group will go once a month to Crown Bay. It’s a concrete opportunity to take care of “the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, and the sick” right in our own backyard. If you’d like to join ECM, please sign up.

If you can, please sign up by this Wednesday!

News: Week of 10/6-10/11

UPDATE: Combined Bible Study will be at 2060 2050 VLSB. See you at 7:30!

Hope everybody had a wonderful weekend. I heard the sisters had a blast at the sleepover; the brothers certainly had an amazing time at the Sierras. Just don’t mention the game. Ever.

WED: HOTSPOT
8:30pm @ YWCA (2600 Bancroft Way)

There’s nothing worse than studying and cramming by yourself. Join us for our Hotspot Study Session at the Y this Wednesday. Snacks will most definitely be provided.

FRI: FROSH LIFE GROUP PICNIC DINNER
6:30pm @ Memorial Glade

Frosh Life Groups will be at Memorial Glade this week.

FRI: BIBLE STUDY
7:30pm @ 2050 VLSB

We’ll be beginning a new series titled, “The IncomPARABLE Jesus.” Ha! Get it? (I promise, I didn’t come up with this title — as awesome as it may be.)

FRI: SCAVENGER HUNT

After Bible Study, we’ll have the long-awaited Scavenger Hunt!

Mission Trip Signups

This winter, Gracepoint Berkeley will be having mission trips to three locations: Cambodia, Taiwan, and Mexico. Talk to those who have gone to previous trips — it’s often recounted as the highlight of their winter break. So, experience the winter mission trip this year for yourself!

Sign up! | More details

Devotion Time Signups

Sign up to do DT with a group of friends! During SK1, the Kairos sophomore bros pondered on the benefits of doing DT in such a group. They all knew that they should be doing DT on a regular basis, but it’s often hard to do so by oneself. Furthermore, as one of them shared, “I like to hear what others share. Sometimes they talk about a point that I haven’t considered.”

News: Week of 9/27-10/3

Life Groups will once again happen at the YWCA — food provided, of course!

FRI: BIBLE STUDY

Join us in the fifth installment of the Why am I…? series. John “Korea” Lee will be touching on the topic, ”Why am I so lonely?”

FRI – SAT: SIERRA LODGE TRIP + CAL VS. USC FOOTBALL
Departing immediately after bible study (~9:30pm)

We’ll be heading to the great out doors for this Saturday for a nice break from all those pesky midterms to enjoy each others company, fun sports, good food and of course, the CAL vs. USC football game. Check out the post and sign up!
