News: Week of 9/20-9/26
Sep 19, 2009

Bonus points to anyone who can guess the middle image (that is, what it refers to)
FRI: FROSH LIFE GROUP DINNER
6:30pm @ YWCA (2600 Bancroft Way)
Life Groups will once again happen at the YWCA — food provided, of course!
(Sophomores and Juniors, we’ll be having BYOF — bring your own food — at First Pres courtyard at the same time!)
FRI: COMBINED BIBLE STUDY
7:30pm @ First Prebyterian (2407 Dana St)
Update (9/24): We’re now joining a2f and Koinonia to have a Combined Bible Study, led by Pastor Ed! Koinonia will take the lead on praise this time around — maybe next time, the Kairos band will step up to the plate? In any case, join us as cover the next topic in the series, “Why am I so envious?”
This will be the fourth in our Bible Studies series. This week, John “Korea” Lee will be touching upon the topic, “Why am I so envious?” If you saw him in action at our beach trip this past Saturday, this message is just for you. I’m pretty envious of his two key interceptions against the students in our staff vs. students football game!
Update (9/25): After Bible Study, we’ll be having a Photo Scavenger Hunt the bros will be going to the Memorial Stadium for some football + frisbee action! Sisters will be hanging out at various apartments with snacks.
Bible Study will be at First Presbyterian Church, on Dana/Channing. See you there!
Extra: Post on the Montara Beach trip is up!
Update (9/22)
WED: HOTSPOT (at Andy/Amy’s Place)
Meet 6:15pm in front of Crossroads
We’ll be having our HotSpot in Alameda this week. We’ll leave behind the craziness that is Berzerkeley (if only momentarily) to have some grub and play some games. Come join us!
Hope everyone enjoyed the beach! As always, we’ll be putting up a post with photos shortly.
Before announcing the news for this week, I just want to direct your attention to the new Upcoming Events in the middle column. This will definitely stay up to date, so come back to the website once in a while for updated news. It’s also “clickable”. Hooray.
Also, if this wasn’t clear before, feel free to comment on posts. How did you like Bible Study this past Friday? What touched you at the Fall Retreat? What do you think of these video announcements, like the one below?
Survival Kit 1 (SK1)
This is a course that Gracepoint-Berkeley is offering for Christians who have completed c101/c101x. From the website:
Learn God’s principles for Christian living and growth as you deal with such issues as: the role of the church, how to grow spiritually and engage in spiritual battle, and the three aspects of salvation. Discuss and learn the biblical answers to many often-asked questions about Christian life.
It’s a very engaging course, and I highly recommend it. If you’re interested, please SIGN UP NOW — due date is 9/25!
Office Hours with Sue
If you would like to meet with Sue for a 1-on-1 chat (or if and a couple of friends want to meet her), you can now sign up for her office hours (Fri 12:30-3). If you’re not sure what to talk about, you can start by asking about her story. Here’s a little snippet…
For my 17th birthday my parents surprised me with a new red prelude. It wasn’t the BMW that I wanted, but I was satisfied. I wore only designer clothes and with the many changes in trends, so my wardrobe would change as well. There were many times I threw out my clothes because the trend had passed and I would no longer be caught dead wearing them. … Looking back, that’s the only way to describe myself – a spoiled brat.
You can read more of her story, or better yet, ask her yourself on Friday! “Sign up” simply be emailing her (suejyi [at] gmail) with your preferred time.
Etcetera
As always, this post will be “live” — that is, it will be updated as the week progresses. And so will the Upcoming Events in the sidebar!

mm, beach was wonderful, beautiful day, beautiful weather, beautiful beach, beautiful background, beautiful activities… relaxing and delightful
sk1 testimony guidelines?
wow… Alan. That’s too much right there! But yes, the beach was quite amazing. I hope people can join us next time. Grr, students have GOT to win at least once before my graduation….
Hey Abe, the new side calender is awesome. It syncs with my Google Calendar so it’s nifty
I’m even more up to date now ^^
Office Hours with Sue huh… wow.
oh wait, is the google calendar function gone?
The beach was awesome. For those who couldn’t make it we missed you….go next year
I’ll see you at office hours Sue!
It was a lot warmer than most of us anticipated. Can’t wait for the photos to come up.
Thanks for the middle column of up-coming events! That’s going to be a lifesaver for me!
I’m so cold right now I wish I was back at the beach…
I think staff owe some yogurt from the last game =). Beach trip was incredible, I always look forward to our beach outings as its almost guaranteed to be great food, fun, and fellowship. Hope everyone’s recovering and getting work done!
I’ll give you that Kevin but I think we’re even after the ensuing volleyball game. I seem to recall some domination occurring during that game
But yeah looking forward to the next Kairos outing!
The beach was really fun! The scenery was so beautiful.
Its amazing how much more events are going on now since Kairos has expanded. I can’t wait for the Thanksgiving retreat after that very blessed time at the Fall retreat.
Sadly, it was 3 key interceptions T_T
and yes, I’m envious that a man almost twice my age is still more athletic
Yeah that was a fun trip on a beautiful day. RTay and I had some fun at the grill but I also got to get in on the volleyball game where the staff dominated. Oh and John Korea’s performance on the field … inspiring!
Thanks RTay and Nelson for manning the grill while the rest of us played!! The food was great!
The beach was so nice~ it was like socal beach without the crowds. I think I got enough exercise for a week though.
I love guessing riddles! who’s the middle image…. is it Cain? with a mark on his head?? But it doesn’t look too much like a mark. the picture looks kind of creepy though.
(who designs these post card thingies? they look cool but sometimes creepy)
Nice guess, Lin. Nope, it’s not Cain, but I like the way you think. Here’s another hint: it’s from a movie.
There’s a rotation of three designers who create the announcement graphics. We’ll just let you guess as to who designed for which week. =D
I heard photo scavenger hunt was cancelled. Is that true?
yes it is canceled, we’re tryna get memorial arent we?
and abe, to be honest, it looks kinda like the juggernaut. foe dah lulz.
it reminds me of two-face from batman… but the half circle above his head suggests something else… and two-face isn’t light/dark, just normal/scarred
@Josh @Bob: Yes, we are trying to get Memorial Stadium — in the dark! Ha! Just kidding. With the lights on, of course.
@Bob @Alan (Otter): I can kinda see your interpretations… but what do they have to do with envy/jealousy? (Juggernaut’s envious that he has no brains, especially when compared to his stepbrother, Professor X?)
Two more hints:
y’all scrubs.
Amadeus! Andy played it for us last semester so I have a competitive advantage
It was so obvious when I first saw it! I was gonna wait for another person to guess it, but I guess I will have to reveal the true answer…
(drumroll)…
Amadeus! It’s a movie about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Do an Ask.com image search and you will see the iconic movie poster.
oh, i shouldve known, i saw that movie in music theory LOL…which means i was asleep.
so i wouldnt have known. oh well
o shoot, i saw it last year too, but I forgot…
